The Government has committed to provide funding to establish a Superannuation Clearing House Facility to help employers meet their superannuation fund choice obligations.

The clearing house will be offered free of charge to small businesses with less than 20 employees and on a fee-for-service basis to larger businesses.

This facility, which will be made available from 1 July 2009, will be contracted out to the private sector.

There are already a number of commercial clearing houses operating, which will disburse employer contributions to various employee chosen funds (along with the employer's default fund where a choice is not made) but these are usually only free of charge to large employer groups.
