Have You Thought About Your Christmas Shutdown Yet?

Notice periods for annual shutdowns vary by Awards. As Christmas looms close, have you checked your Award notice periods?

It’s creeping up fast – Christmas! If the Christmas & New Year period is a quiet time for your organisation, it is good practice to utilise the provision of an annual closedown to have employees take paid leave.

Just remember you must provide notice of a shutdown and, be aware, some Awards require employers to provide 2 months’ notice, such as the Building and Construction General On-site Award 2010. So check your relevant Awards or Agreement for the notice period required.

As each state differs slightly in their designated public holidays over this period, be sure to check what is designated for your state.

Subscribers to Your HRdocs can download a Christmas Shutdown Template Letter advising their employees of the shutdown period.
