Minimum Wage Increase - 1 July 2014

It's time again to check the rates of pay for your staff. Are you prepared for the 1 July 2014 changes?

As previously advised, from 1 July 2014 the national minimum adult wage will increase by 3% to $640.90 per week or $16.87 per hour.

The national minimum wage applies to employees who are not covered by an award or agreement, who are not junior employees; employees to whom training arrangements apply; or employees with disability. The loading for all casual employees will now be 25%.

Updated Modern Awards reflecting the Wage Review increase to award rates are being prepared now and will soon be made available. Please remember to check any relevant allowances that your staff are entitled to, as these may have also increased.

The transitional pay rates that have applied since 2010 are now a thing of the past. Modern Awards will now reflect the correct minimum rates to pay. However, it's critical to note that redundancy provisions remain transitional in most Awards until 31 December 2014.

Increases to rates of pay, allowances, penalties and loadings, as a result of the Annual Wage Review, are payable from the first full pay period to commence on or after 1 July 2014.
