Is your Business Closing Over Christmas/ New Year?

The Christmas period is rapidly approaching. If you are planning to close your business over this time you must provide your staff with at least one month's notice prior to the close down commencing.

Just a reminder that if you are planning to close your business over the Christmas/New Year period you must provide your staff with at least one month's notice prior to the close down commencing.

You must also observe the following:

  • Provide leave without pay for employees with insufficient leave entitlements to cover the close down period
  • Make pro-rata payments to employees who have worked less than 12 months.
  • Each business can only have one close down notice per calendar year.

Each state has different days designated as public holidays over this period. Be sure to check the relevant ones for your business.
